Toyota Maintenance Notes

  • Most modern Toyota engines use a timing chain, not a belt, so there is no scheduled belt replacement on those, but we still check the chain and tensioners on higher-mileage cars.
  • Toyota calls for a full-synthetic oil on most of the newer engines, and on the oil-consuming 2AZ-FE keeping the right oil and the right level matters even more.
  • Toyota hybrids need their own cooling and inverter-coolant service, plus battery health checks, which we handle.

  • Excessive oil consumption on the 2007-2011 2AZ-FE four-cylinder

    Affects: 2.4L 2AZ-FE (2007-2011): Camry, RAV4, others

    The big one we see on these Camrys, Corollas, and RAV4s with the 2.4L 2AZ-FE engine. The piston-ring design lets the engine burn oil between changes, so the level drops and owners get caught low. There was a class action and a warranty extension over it. We check oil level and consumption closely on these and tell you where you actually stand.

  • Brakes wear out early

    Affects: Most models

    Toyotas in general go through brake pads sooner than people expect, so we keep an eye on pad and rotor life and let you know before it turns into a metal-on-metal job.

  • Melting and sticky dashboards on 2007-2009 models

    Affects: 2007-2009 (especially hybrids)

    On 2007-2009 Toyotas, notably the hybrids, the dash material can go soft, shiny, and sticky in our Georgia heat. It is a known issue, not something you did wrong.
