What the Ignition Switch Does
Your ignition switch is the gatekeeper between your key (or push-button starter) and the rest of your vehicle's electrical system. When you turn the key or press the button, the switch energizes the starter motor, fuel pump, and ignition system so the engine can crank and run. It also powers your accessories, radio, climate fan, dashboard, power windows, in the ACC position.
When the switch wears out, fails internally, or the physical key cylinder gets damaged, the symptoms can range from "will not start" to intermittent stalling that's tough to diagnose without the right tools.
