  • Subaru's boxer engine layout means head-gasket and some other work takes longer than on a typical inline engine because the cylinders lay flat on both sides.
  • Subaru's all-wheel drive needs matched tires, all four close in tread depth and size, or you can damage the drivetrain, so we watch tire wear closely.
  • On the oil-burning FB25 engines, checking the level between changes matters more than usual.
  • Older EJ engines use a timing belt that needs replacing on schedule, the newer FB engines use a chain.

    Affects: 2.5L EJ25 (~1999-2011)

    The classic Subaru problem. The 2.5L EJ25 engine, roughly 1999 to 2011 across the Forester, Outback, Impreza, and Legacy, is known for head gaskets that leak. You may see coolant loss, overheating, or oil and coolant mixing. We catch these and reseal them, and since it is a boxer engine the heads come off on both sides.

  • Excessive oil consumption on the FB25, 2011 to 2015

    Affects: FB25 2.5L (2011-2015)

    The FB25 2.5L engine from 2011 to 2015 is known for burning oil between changes, so the level drops and you can run low without warning. There was a class action over it. We check consumption on these and keep the level safe.
